A new VPN connection shows **Down** until the remote side connects successfully. Check:

- The settings (IKE version, encryption, pre-shared key, subnets) **match exactly** on both ends
- Your networks don't use overlapping IP ranges
- A virtual router is attached
- With **IKE v1**, only one subnet per side is supported – use IKE v2 for multiple subnets
