Cloud servers
Virtual machines, volumes, backups and networking
How do I create a new virtual machine?
1. In the cloud panel, click Create virtual machine. 2. Choose what to boot from: an image (template or ISO) or an existing volume. 3. Pick a flavor (CPU/RAM size) and the networks to attach. 4. For Linux templates, add an SSH key – cloud images have no default password. Installing from an ISO? Use the built-in VNC console to run the installer. 📖 Full guide: Creating virtual machines
How do I connect to my VM (console or SSH)?
Console (always works): select the VM and click Console. It opens in a separate browser window, where you can also send key combinations, take screenshots and download the log. SSH (Linux): requires cloud-init and OpenSSH in the image. The default username depends on the OS, e.g. ubuntu for Ubuntu or centos for CentOS. Log in with the SSH key you selected when creating the VM – cloud images have no default password. Windows: use the username set via Cloudbase-Init; without an SSH key you need a password. 📖 Full guide: Connecting to virtual machines
Which operating systems are supported?
Only x64 is supported. Supported guests include: - Windows Server 2008 R2 to 2025, and Windows 8.1, 10 and 11 - Linux: Rocky Linux and AlmaLinux 8–10, RHEL 7–10, Debian 9–12, Ubuntu 18.04–24.04, CentOS 6–9, Oracle Linux and SLES 15 Note: Windows Essentials editions and desktop Windows don't support CPU/RAM hot plug. 📖 Full list: Supported guest operating systems
Why wasn't my SSH key added to my VM?
SSH keys are injected only when you deploy from a template or a boot volume – not when installing from an ISO. For ISO installs, add your key inside the OS after installation. Also good to know: deleting a key in the panel does not remove it from VMs that already use it. Keys work for both Linux and Windows. 📖 Full guide: Managing SSH keys
I resized my volume – why doesn't the disk show the new size?
Resizing grows the volume, but not the file system inside your VM. After resizing, extend the partition and file system from within the operating system. - Volumes can be resized online, without downtime. - Volumes can only be increased, never shrunk. 📖 Full guide: Resizing volumes
How do volume snapshots work?
- Create one via Volumes → your volume → Snapshots → Create snapshot. - A volume can have up to 32 snapshots. - For consistent snapshots of a running VM, install the guest tools. - Careful: reverting to a snapshot deletes all snapshots taken after it. 📖 Full guide: Managing volume snapshots
How do I set up automatic backups for my VM?
Create a backup plan and add your volumes to it: - Presets: Retention 7 days or Retention 14 days, both running daily at 2 AM (UTC), or a custom schedule - Default chain: 1 full backup plus 6 incrementals - A volume can belong to only one backup plan Restoring creates a new volume from the recovery point – your original volume is not overwritten. 📖 Full guides: Creating backup plans · Restoring volumes from backups
Am I charged for a floating IP I'm not using?
Yes. Floating IPs are billed from the moment they are allocated, even when they aren't attached to a server. To stop billing, release the IP. Released IPs cannot be recovered, so make sure you no longer need the address. Floating IPs need a router on your network, and you can move them between servers by unassigning and assigning them again. 📖 Full guide: Public Cloud networking
How do I open a port (e.g. 443) for my server?
Traffic to your server is controlled by security groups: 1. Go to Networking → Security Groups. 2. Add an inbound rule for the port and protocol, e.g. TCP 443 from 0.0.0.0/0. 3. Make sure the group is assigned to your server. Rules are stateful (replies are allowed automatically), multiple groups add up, and changes apply immediately. Also check the firewall inside your operating system. 📖 Full guide: Managing security groups
Why does my site-to-site VPN show "Down"?
A new VPN connection shows Down until the remote side connects successfully. Check: - The settings (IKE version, encryption, pre-shared key, subnets) match exactly on both ends - Your networks don't use overlapping IP ranges - A virtual router is attached - With IKE v1, only one subnet per side is supported – use IKE v2 for multiple subnets 📖 Full guide: Creating VPN connections
How do I get S3 access keys for object storage?
S3 access is off by default. Go to S3 → Enable S3 storage to switch it on – this creates your access key ID and secret access key. Keep the secret key safe; anyone who has it can access your buckets. 📖 Full guide: Enabling access to S3 storage
How do I enable two-factor authentication for the cloud panel?
Click your profile icon → Configure 2FA and scan the code with an authenticator app such as Google or Microsoft Authenticator. You'll then enter a 6-digit code at each login. Lost your phone? Ask your account administrator to reset 2FA, or open a ticket at support.bamboozle.me. 📖 Full guide: Configuring two-factor authentication
